Initial Visit

For convenience, Orange Coast Urology’s doctors see patients on an appointment basis, which ensues that they always receive personal care. We also see patients without an appointment when necessary, and sometimes, our doctors experience unforeseen surgical complications that might delay an appointment. Whenever possible, you will be fully informed of any delays in our schedule.

Please bring your insurance cards, or any insurance information you have. You will be responsible for any co-payment or deductible at the time of your visit. If you do not have insurance, please be prepared to pay for the services at the time you are seen. Our office accepts cash, checks, Visa and MasterCard.

If you need to cancel your appointment, please notify our office 24 hours in advance. We reserve the right to charge for appointments, procedures and surgeries cancelled or broken without 24 hours advance notice.

Insurance

We participate in most of the plans that are available to members of the community. As a courtesy to our patients, our insurance clerks will check on any plan about which there is a question.

We try to simplify the preparation of insurance claims, thereby holding down costs that are unrelated to the delivery of good medical care. We will gladly file your insurance claims for you at the time of each office visit. If we are furnished with the correct address we will mail your forms to the company for you. Otherwise, they will be mailed directly to you to forward to your insurance company.

Please keep in mind that the responsibility for payment of fees is the direct obligation of the patient. We request monthly payments while your insurance is pending and will refund any overpayment made by you once we receive your insurance payment.

If we have filed an insurance claim and no payment or rejection notice has been received within sixty days from the date of filing, we suggest that you contact your insurance company about the delay. We know questions can arise on insurance matters and these should be discussed with our insurance clerks. For assistance with these issues, please call our office at 949-646-1131.

Diagnostic X-Rays and Lab Work

Many insurance plans require that the patient receive services at facilities on a provider list. We would like you to be aware that the majority of our lab work is done outside our office. We also send our ultrasounds out to be read by a radiologist. However, the fact that our office may be a provider for your insurance does not mean that a particular lab or doctor we refer to is covered under your insurance plan.

We work with our patients to allow them to receive the best insurance coverage for their treatment. If you are required to use a particular lab or doctor, please let us know before having any x-rays or lab work done in our office. We are happy to supply you with orders to take to an alternate facility at your request.

Telephone Calls

Patients are encouraged to call whenever they have any questions. Our office staff will answer the telephone from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; the office is closed during the weekend, and from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. An answering service picks up our calls when the office is closed. They are experienced in directing your call to our on-call doctor in case of an emergency. Our office staff can answer many of your questions and will always relay your information to your doctor. If necessary, your doctor will speak with you then, or he may call you later if he is unable to leave another patient or is in surgery.

Fees and Payments

If you have questions about our fees or your billing, please discuss these with our office staff. They are well versed in the insurance carriers, patient contributions, and billing cycles. If special arrangements are required, you can speak with our Office Manager, 949-646-1131 Judi Lee about your unique situation, depending upon special circumstances. It is very important that you notify us of any change in your address.

In the event of a severe emergency, go immediately to the emergency room of the nearest hospital and ask them to contact your doctor. If the situation arises where you wish to contact your doctor, please call our office 949-646-1131, and your doctor will be in touch with you either directly or through our office staff to provide instructions on how to proceed.

Referrals

Many of our patients are referred to us by other physicians. It is very important that your primary care physician be kept aware of your condition. Please write the name of your referring physician on the personal data sheet that you will be given by one of our receptionists. Also, if this relationship changes, please notify our office staff.
