Expert in Prostate Cancer Surgery
A practicing physician for 14 years, Jeffrey Yoshida joined the Orange Coast Urology Group in 2008. Dr. Yoshida specializes in urology and minimally invasive surgery for urologic malignancies such as prostate, kidney, bladder and testicular cancer. Dr. Yoshida provides advanced health care services in robotic-assisted prostate surgery and is an expert in the use of the da Vinci robotic surgical system, and has been using this technique since 2003.
In May 2008, Dr. Yoshida was named Associate Medical Director of Urologic Oncology at the Hoag Cancer Center in Newport Beach, California. There, Dr. Yoshida leads the development of a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary prostate cancer program and plays a key role in the growth of a site-specific program for urologic malignancies, which include prostate, kidney, bladder and testicular cancers. Dr. Yoshida was recognized by Hoag Hospital as a leading surgeon during the last 12 months using the da Vinci procedure. He also chairs the multi-disciplinary prostate/urologic oncology case conferences held twice a month at the Hoag Cancer Center.
The da Vinci System enables Dr. Yoshida to perform even the most complex and delicate procedures through very small incisions with unmatched precision. Patient benefits may include:
- Significantly less pain
- Less blood loss
- Less scarring
- Shorter recovery time
- A faster return to normal daily activities
- And in many cases, better clinical outcomes
Board-certified in urology, Dr. Yoshida has practiced urologic oncology since 2004, after completing a fellowship in laparoscopic oncology/robotic surgery at the City of Hope Medical Center, a National Cancer Institute and designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in Duarte, California. While at City of Hope, Dr. Yoshida served as Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Urologic Oncology and also held a leadership role in the kidney cancer program.
Prior to completing his fellowship at City of Hope National Cancer Center, Dr. Yoshida fulfilled an internship in general surgery at LAC-Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, and a residency in urology at Loma Linda University Medical Center. Dr. Yoshida holds a B.S. in biology from Pacific Union College and earned his M.D. at Loma Linda University.
Dr. Yoshida is published in numerous journals, including the following:
- The Journal of Urology - co-author of a publication regarding gene therapy for bladder cancer
- To Your Health - Spring 2000: Topic: Robotic Advantage Brings Increased Precision: Nerve-sparing robotic prostatectomy
- Kidney Cancer Journal - Volume 5, NO. 4 Winter 2007-2008: Robot-Assisted Laparoscopic

GETTING BETTER ACQUAINTED WITH DR. YOSHIDA:
Ever since I was a kid, I wanted to be a doctor; it's something that I always dreamed about from a very early age. My interest in the specialized area of urology evolved while pursuing advanced training in robotic surgery which led to my current medical specialty, particularly evident in the da Vinci procedure. This procedure allows me to perform cancer surgery with a minimum of side effects and allows my patients to experience faster recovery and fewer complications.
A life philosophy that I've chosen to live by is the simple Golden Rule we have all grown up hearing - "Do unto others as you would want done to you." The ethic of reciprocity, also known as the Golden Rule, is an ethical code that states one has a right to just treatment, and a responsibility to ensure justice for others. The most common English phrasing of the Golden Rule is "Doing unto others as you would have them do unto you." (Luke 6:31, NIV).
